Perinatal mental health care for women across Los Angeles County
Practicum & Internship

Doctoral training in perinatal mental health, in the heart of Los Angeles County.

Pasadena Clinical Group hosts doctoral psychology students for practicum and pre-doctoral internship placements focused on perinatal mental health. Trainees work alongside licensed clinicians, see a range of presentations across pregnancy and postpartum, and receive structured supervision throughout their year with us.

Training Program

What our practicum and internship offers

We are committed to building the next generation of perinatal mental health clinicians. Trainees join a focused program rather than rotating through unrelated services, and supervision is treated as central to the work — not an afterthought.

Perinatal-focused caseload

Trainees see a clinically rich caseload of women across pregnancy, postpartum, perinatal loss, birth trauma, and identity transitions — well beyond what most outpatient training sites offer.

Group therapy co-facilitation

Advanced trainees co-facilitate perinatal therapy groups under the supervision of a licensed clinician — a rare and clinically meaningful training experience.

Weekly individual supervision

Every trainee receives at least two hours of weekly individual supervision with a licensed psychologist, plus group supervision focused on perinatal cases.

Didactic seminar series

Our didactic seminar covers perinatal mood and anxiety conditions, perinatal loss, infant mental health basics, ethics in maternal mental health, and culturally responsive care across LA's diverse communities.

Who We're Looking For

Doctoral students drawn to women's mental health.

We accept applications from doctoral students in clinical or counseling psychology (PhD or PsyD) who have completed at least one year of practicum and are looking for a focused, perinatal-oriented placement. The strongest candidates are those with genuine interest in maternal mental health, an openness to group work, and an appetite for supervision.

  • Currently enrolled in an APA-accredited or equivalent doctoral program.
  • Completed coursework relevant to assessment, individual therapy, and ethics.
  • Interest in perinatal mental health, women's health, or family transitions.
  • Available for the agreed-upon hours per week and full training year.
